Goodreads: My Year in Books 2019

Goodreads Year in Books meme

Hello! I hope you had a great Christmas. Even though I still plan on reading one or two more books, the Goodreads Your Year in Books has been going around for a while. Bite Into Books is hosting the Your Year in Books Book meme and I decided to participate.

I knew when this year began that it would be a good year in books, and it was!

Some Statistics…

I read 55,261 pages across 152 books (so far) this year! There’s still one more week so it’ll probably be a little more. I averaged 363 pages per book.

Book stack

The shortest book I read was Life After Legend, which was a whopping 21 pages. the longest book I read (on audiobook) was Les Misérables, which is 1463 pages in print.

The most popular book I read this year was City of Bones, which was read by 1,626,682 other people. The least popular book I read was Goof-Proof, which was read by 26 other people.

My average rating was 4.5 (although I don’t always rate my lower-rated books).

My first review of the year was “The Midnight Heir,” and the last book of the year was Almost Midnight (so far).

  1. 152 books (or more) is awesome! Sounds like you had a pretty good reading year. 🙂

I should get Almost Midnight although I’ve already read the short story “Midnights” (at least I think that’s what it was called?)…

Hope you had a great holiday!

    1. Thank you! The other story in Almost Midnight is “Kindred Spirits” which was pretty good. You can also get a digital copy of it online.

  2. I’m on 105 so far and I think – based on what I’m reading – I’ll get two more finished.
150+ books is a fantastic year of reading! I’m aiming for over 150 in 2020. 🙂

I need to add Cassandra Clare to my reading list next year. I loved City of Bones – in fact, all the Infernal Devices and Mortal Instruments – but haven’t read any of the Academy, Chronicles or the more recent series.

    1. You’re more ambitious than I am… I’m not sure whether to keep my goal at 105 or bump it up to 110 as my Goodreads Goal, LOL. I figure 2 books a week is doable but I’m not sure if I can keep up with this pace. Good luck!

I’m listening to Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy on audiobook right now… I might finish it by the end of the year since I have a long drive ahead of me. I hope you get to read more of the Shadowhunters books in 2020… even if you don’t count Chain of Gold, I still have a few to get to next year!

    1. I’m either going to keep it at 105 or am going to bump it up to 110. I don’t want to get too ambitious, and I know 2 books a week is doable, even if I have writing deadlines.

    1. Les Misérables wasn’t quite what I expected. I’ve never seen the play or movie, so I thought it was about a guy who went to prison for stealing a loaf of bread and a cop that chased after him, with some sort of mixed class romance involved. There was so much more to the book than that, it’s quite epic, and even though it goes on digressions about many things from nunneries to slang, it was all interesting.
