Books By Awesome Authors I Still Haven’t Read

Welcome to another Top Ten Tuesday (hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl).  Today’s topic is supposed to be “Books By My Favorite Authors That I Still Haven’t Read,” but I want to also include authors that I like, but don’t necessarily consider to be among my “favorites”.  That way this post can have more variety.

Cassandra Clare.  There are a lot of books that I haven’t read by Cassandra Clare yet.  I haven’t read any of The Infernal Devices yet, or The Dark Artifices.  Although I’m finishing up The Mortal Instruments, I haven’t had the time to read any of these.  I’ll be checking them out of my library soon, however.

Court of Thorns and Roses coverSarah J. Maas.  I have had the opportunity to read most of the Throne of Glass series over the last couple of months, but I haven’t read any of A Court of Thorns and Roses.  Or any of the novellas.  I’ll get around to them someday, but she’s written quite a lot.

Rose and the Dagger coverRenée Ahdieh.  I read Flame in the Mist, Smoke in the Sun, and The Wrath & the Dawn earlier this year, but I still haven’t read The Rose & the Dagger.  I would like to read it at some point, but I just haven’t gotten around to it yet.  Maybe because this book doesn’t have a waiting list and I can read this whenever I want to.

War Storm CoverVictoria Aveyard.  When I first wrote this post, I thought that there would be no way War Storm would become available at the library before today.  Well, it did become available, and I did get to read it, but I haven’t read any of the novellas.  I’m going to be really busy in November with NaNoWriMo, maybe I’ll read some of the novellas that month.

Legendary CoverStephanie Garber.  I read Caraval earlier this year, and I thought it was great.  I haven’t had the chance to read Legendary yet.  Of course, I also haven’t had the chance to read Finale yet, because it’s not out yet.

Muse of Nightmares coverLaini Taylor.  Now we’re getting to the part of today’s list where I’m getting desperate to find books I haven’t read by amazing authors.  I haven’t read Muse of Nightmares yet, although I do have it on pre-order.  But then again, I also haven’t read her Daughter of Smoke and Bone series yet, so I guess we’re not getting too desperate to find books I haven’t read.  Yet.

1434 coverGavin Menzies.  I’ve read two of his books, and I thought they were pretty good.  I still haven’t read 1434:  The Year a Magnificent Chinese Fleet Sailed to Italy and Ignited the Renaissance yet.  I’ve had to dig into nonfiction at this point, but I haven’t read this book, and would like to.

Killing the SS coverBill O’Reilly.  There are quite a few of O’Reilly’s Killing series that I haven’t read yet.  I have read Killing the Rising Sun, Killing Reagan, and Killing Lincoln, and I thought they were really good.  I haven’t read Killing the SS yet, although it’s not out yet.  There are a few other Killing books I haven’t read yet either.

slasher girls and monster boys coverMarie Lu.  Amazingly enough, I actually haven’t read everything by Marie Lu.  Shocking, right?  While technically she’s only a contributor to these books, I recently found out about some stories that she wrote for a couple of anthologies, including Slasher Girls and Monster Boys.  I really liked Veronica Roth’s story in Summer Days and Summer Nights, so I figure that I have to go check this one out now.  Plus, there are other great authors in this anthology too.

She also has a story in A Tyranny of Petticoats that I’m going to have to check out as well.  Then she has an essay in another book and I think a Middle Grade book that I haven’t read yet.  So I guess I have some things to check out between now and 2020 when Kingdom of Back comes out!

Untitled Sabaa TahirSabaa Tahir.  I haven’t read the fourth book in the Ember in the Ashes Tetralogy either.  It doesn’t even have a title yet.  But fortunately, we’re at 10 books now, otherwise I’d tell you how I also haven’t read The Chosen Ones, which will be Veronica Roth’s new book, out in 2020.  But we’re out of time now.

  1. TID is probably my favorite of Clare’s series. The character and the story were just incredible, AND two of them are featured in TDA, which was very awesome. ACOMAF was such a stellar book for me. The rest of the series pales in comparison. TWatD duology is another favorite of mine. I thought the writing was so lush, and the story was fantastic too. I abandon the Red Queen series after the second book. I just couldn’t get into it at all. I need to read Legendary too. My co-blogger reviewed it for the blog, so I sort of let it slip through the cracks, BUT I will read it.

    1. I just started reading Legendary this morning. So far, so good. Too bad you didn’t like The Red Queen. I guess not everybody is going to like every book though.

    1. I just started reading Legendary today (if you count a day as being from the time I wake up to the time I go to bed) and it’s good. You definitely should give them a try when you get the chance!

    1. I can see how there can be too much of a good thing. I have two books left in The Mortal Instruments, then I’ll probably read some of the other books on my TBR before logging into the library and putting TDA on hold.

  2. I recently read Legendary, and even though I liked it, I preferred Caraval over it. Slasher Girls and Monster Boys is the perfect Halloween read, my favorite story in it is the one by Jay Kristoff. The Rose and the Dagger is wonderful *heart eyes*

I hope you enjoy all of these when you get a chance to read them!

    Thanks for sharing,

    1. That’s what I was thinking, about Slasher Girls and Monster Boys. I’m not really a Halloween person, but it’ll probably be a good book to read somewhere in the middle of October anyway.

    1. Good to know. I get confused about what comes when, but there’s a list on Goodreads that I plan to follow in order to figure out what order to read everything in. That’s why I started with The Mortal Instruments.

    1. She has a very beautiful writing style. Everybody seems to describe it that way, but until you actually read her stuff, it’s hard to know what people mean by that, LOL.

    1. Thank you! It might be a while though, for some of them, at least. Although I am reading Legendary right now and I’ll read Muse of Nightmares next week.

    1. If you don’t like shadowhunters, there’s not much else to Clare’s work… although she does have at least one short story that I know of that is unrelated.

  3. Awesome list! I still need to try Cassandra Clare. Her books sound like something I’d like, but there’s just never enough time to read all the books I’d like to.

    1. Looking forward to reading them! The difficult thing about starting a series that has so many books (like the Shadowhunters books) is that there are so many books ahead of the newer ones.

  4. Amazingly enough, I actually have heard of most of these books before (I say amazing because YA fantasy isn’t usually my go-to genre). I’m planning to read more of Marie Lu’s books after I finish Wildcard. Hope you manage to read these books sometime soon!

    1. I hope you like Marie Lu’s other books! The Legend series is dystopian and set in the same “Luniverse” (not a term I made up) as Wildcard, just in the 2130s. The Young Elites is YA fantasy though.

I just finished Legendary yesterday, and I plan on reading Muse of Nightmares and Slasher Girls and Monster Boys in October.

  5. Hahha I love when it gets to the point where you start throwing unpublished books on the list out of desperation! I haven’t read any of these but The Rose and the Dagger and ACOTAR- but I need to read a lot of them! Especially Legendary and Muse of Nightmares- those I am so, so excited for. And Slasher Girls and Monster Boys , I think I own that, but who can tell for sure.Great choices!

    1. If I really like an author, I tend to read everything they come out with, LOL. I hope to buy Slasher girls with my next paycheck, especially since that will make a good October read.

  6. Ahhh I love the Cassandra Clare books but there are SO MANY so I totally get not having a chance to read them all yet. 😂I actually haven’t even read the Shadowhunter Academy short stories yet whoops. So so excited for Queen of Air and Darkness though *Flails* !!! And I also really need to read more Renee Ahdieh books. Eep. I am so ashamed I haven’t yet, since I even own 2 I haven’t touched.😂 And I can attest to Muse of Nightmares being amazing. 😀

    1. Yay for Muse of Nightmares! That’s on my schedule for October 2nd, although it looks like I’ll finish reading Enchantée tomorrow, so I’ll probably be in the middle of City of Fallen Angels when it arrives. I’m sure I’m going to hate having to put that down for a couple of days, but book reviews for new books have to come first!

  7. I really, really loved Legendary! Even more so than Caraval – actually, a lot more. So I hope you get to read it soon, hah!
You’re right about Maas. She’s written a LOT but I love her for it as well. I’d rather have an amazing author writing a lot than.. an amazing author who leaves us hanging and waiting for a sequel for years.. 😛

    Happy reading to you!

    1. ::cough cough:: George RR Martin ::cough::

I did finish Legendary and I thought it was great! Now I get to wait with everybody else for Finale!

    1. It was really good. Since you already have it, you should read it! Although I have plenty of books that I haven’t read yet. Especially since Amazon puts all of these really good books on sale every month for $1.99 and I think “It’s less than the price of a salad…”

  8. I haven’t read any of these or anything by the authors, I confess. Not for lack of wanting to though! Several of these authors are on my wish list. I hope you are able to get to these someday! Have a great weekend.
