Hello! It’s Tuesday again, and I hope you’re doing well. It’s another Top Ten Tuesday (hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl). Today’s topic is “Books I Borrowed/Bought Because…” and I’m going to do books I bought because they were on sale. I have trouble passing up $1.99/$2.99 books! I figure even if I’m only mildly interested in a book, it’s worth picking up at that price. So I’m going to go through my order history and share some of my bargains!
My favorite price for books? Free. That’s what Obsidian is going for, as of Monday (so it might still be free). There are always free books on Amazon, but they’re not always books I want to read. Anyway, I borrowed Obsidian from the library last year and I liked it, so I figured for free, I might as well get it.
Right before The Kingdom of Back came out, most of Marie Lu’s books went on sale. Don’t you already own them all? you might ask. Yes, but I didn’t own them all on the Kindle. Now I do. My family members tend to prefer Kindle books, plus you can search through them. So next time my family want to borrow my Marie Lu books, they can read them on the Kindle, instead of on my (now signed) first print hardcovers.
EreaderIQ is a great place to go to if you’re looking for cheap books. I track books that I’m interested in purchasing but don’t want to pay full price for and don’t have an urgent need to read right away. I was tracking The Bride Test for months. Although I saw the bargain first on Twitter, EreaderIQ did send me an alert to let me know this book went on sale. I’m tracking four other books at the moment. If they don’t go on sale by the time I want to read them, there’s always the library.
I wanted to read Romanov when it was still an ARC, but I didn’t get approved. However, I did see it on sale for $1.99 and I couldn’t pass it up at that price. I still haven’t read it yet, but I plan to at some point.
I tend to get a lot of books for $1.99. Sometimes I even forget that I’ve purchased them. One gem I’ve discovered while going through my orders to write this post today is Ruta Sepetys’s Salt to the Sea. I liked her book The Fountains of Silence, and when I saw this on sale, I couldn’t pass it up.
I keep saying that I need to read The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Myer. I’ve had the whole set for over a year–they were on sale for $2.99 each over Cyber Monday in 2018 (they also were on sale over Cyber Monday in 2019 too, but I had already purchased them). One of these days I really need to.
The Ten Thousand Doors of January was also another book that went on sale for $2.99 that I couldn’t pass up. Like many of the books on this list, I still haven’t had the chance to read it, but hopefully I’ll get to it at some point. At least Kindle books don’t take up a lot of space in your house.
A Curse So Dark and Lonely was another book I was able to find for $1.99. I really need to get to reading some of these books! Many of them look so good but I haven’t gotten around to reading them yet!
Sometimes I feel like a bad friend. My friend Katerina King’s book, Malediction, came out last fall, and I still haven’t read it yet. I want to! This book I also got on sale for $1.99.
Another book I got for $1.99 was A Court of Frost and Starlight by Sarah J. Maas.
Sometimes I’m surprised at what books go on sale at such bargain rates. I certainly can’t afford every book I want at full price, so it’s nice that I can find these books at such low prices. It’s either that or the library, and sometimes it’s checked out.
What did you write about today? Next week, we’re going to talk about books I enjoyed but rarely talk about. So no books by my auto-buy authors next week!
I hope you do read The Lunar Chronicles!! They were really cool books. Ten Thousand Doors of January is one I wouldn’t mind getting for 2.99!! Sale books are awesome π
I definitely have to!
I enjoyed both Romanov and Salt To The Sea. A Curse So Dark and Lonely was kind of underwhelming for me, as was Cinder, though I did enjoy the second Lunar Chronicles book. I need to actually get around to finishing that series one day!

I have several series like that.
I buy books because they’re on sale, too. It’s a nice, low-pressure to way to try out a new author or genre.

I hate spending money, but $2 for a book seems like nothing!
Salt to the Sea still has to be one of my favourite books. It’s so damn beautiful. I also really enjoyed both Obsidian and Romanov. You have so many good books on this post!Enjoy reading.

Hopefully I’ll get to read them soon!
Love this post! I’m a bargain shopper, too. I also bought A Curse So Dark and Lonely when it was $1.99. I’m always watching for those first books in a series to go on sale when the second, third, or fourth book comes out. π Read The Lunar Chronicles!! It’s so good. Even if you don’t love the first one, push through. They get better and better. And I’ve never heard of EReaderIQ… I’ll be checking that out. I do use Early Bird Books and Bookbub. π

I love how EReaderIQ allows you to track the price of books. Very useful if you’re interested in a particular book.
Omg I have this problem too! I’ve purchased SO MANY books because they were cheap used copies, only to have them sit on my shelf for years because I wasn’t actually interested in them… it’s taken a while to break that habit! Great list.
Haha I have a few of those too. Well, actually I have more than a few that I’ve gotten at the semi-annual library book sale. I’ve had to stop going to those. At least these are all Kindle books, so they don’t take up too much space.
If I did a post about the books I bought because they were on sale it would be almost every book I bought. That’s a big motivator for me. I can’t pass up a good deal. I will stalk an author’s backlist right around the time they have a new release. They always seem to do some sales around then, like they did with Lu’s books.
Haha! You need to get your books on sale (or at the library) because you read so much! I do buy quite a few books at full price, but they’re mostly my auto-buy authors and books I want so much that I pre-order them. It’s so easy to click “Buy now” on a book when it costs less than a bottle of kombucha!
I love a good book sale. π And I need to read more Marie Lu. Ooh Ten thousand Doors as well! I was so excited for that to come out but haven’t gotten to it yet sadly. It sounds awesome.

Sometimes it takes so long to get to the books we want to read!
I may have to check out these offers and places you recommend if you can popular mainstream books so cheap. Where would be the best place to start?

I check out the Kindle Monthly deals every month. That’s where I get a lot of these. Follow publishers and authors on Twitter. Whenever their books go on sale, they will often share it on their feed. There’s also a lot of deals on Cyber Monday. That’s a ways away, but you’ll find a lot of deals then. If there’s a particular book you’re interested in, you can put it on a watch list at eReaderIQ. They can even tell you if a book has been on sale before or not, and what their lowest price was. Keep looking for the good deals and you’ll eventually find them!
I love Cinder and The Young Elites! I have Romanov and Salt to the Sea as well in my TBR, I need to read them one of these days.

Sales get me all the time. My favorite word is “FREE”, though. I’ve got so many ebooks because they were free. It’s a great way to meet a new author.
Guess you can survive the pandemic lockdown now with those books π
Don’t forget to review them as well. Happy reading π

I’ve bought so many books in used book stores I would not have otherwise. Like so many Sarah Dessen lol
A Curse so Dark and Lonely and The Lunar Chronicles are both definitely worth your reading time!
Ugh! eBook sales will be the DEATH of me, I swear. I don’t know if it’s still going on, but a while back Usborne [publisher] put all their ebooks on Amazon for cheap and I went NUTS. I think I bought 16 books? My other half nearly yelled at me since he only saw the mail saying “Your order of … and 15 other items” and went balistic, haha! Luckily I was fast enough to show him the amount I’d spend wasn’t too high. [β¬14 or something?]

I hear SO many good things about Ruta’s books, but never read one. Perhaps because I feel like they’d be too “intense” (emotionally) for my reading tastes. Really want to read ‘Curse’ though and hope you enjoy Romanov. Fun twist on the topic…! π

Obsidian was one I got because it was on a freebie download for kindle. It was alright but not really my kind of book. I loved the Lunar Chronicles though and am impressed you got it on sale! A Curse so Dark and Lonely was another one I loved so much. I should really get around to the Young Elite and The Bride Test too.
