Hello! It’s Tuesday, and you know what that means! Time for another Top Ten Tuesday (hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl). Today’s topic is supposed to be “Books I’ve Added to my TBR and Forgotten Why,” but I usually know why I add books to my TBR, so that wouldn’t be a very good list. Instead, I’ll talk about the most recent books to my TBR. There were a few books I recently added to Goodreads because I read them a long time ago, but I’m not going to include them here.
I’ve never read Twilight before (or seen any of the movies), and wasn’t planning to. After all the book came out 15 years ago and people have mixed feelings about it today. And to be honest? I’m reading it right now and I have to say, while it is entertaining, their relationship has some problems. But with Midnight Sun coming out, I figure, why not read the series? It’s kind of fun to be reading something that lots of your book friends are reading.
I’ve been making a point to read more nonfiction lately. So along with Twilight, I’ve been reading a couple chapters from The Bell Curve every day. It’s definitely an academic book. A few of the chapters are a little controversial, and I have to wonder what direction some of the trends they found went in after this book went to print about 25 years ago.
Of Silver and Shadow was an ARC I got from Netgalley. I was in a hurry to read it, thinking it was coming out at the end of May, and then I discovered that it wouldn’t come out until 2021 (likely because of Coronavirus).
My friend Katerina King wrote Malediction, which came out last fall. I’m not sure why I didn’t add it to my Goodreads TBR sooner than I did.
I read The Guinevere Deception last fall, and I’m looking forward to reading Kiersten White’s sequel, The Camelot Betrayal. This series has some great covers! I can’t wait to read this one.
There’s going to be a sequel to Veronica Roth’s Chosen Ones. It’s still untitled, but I plan to read it. So I added it to my TBR.
Forged in Fire and Stars was a book recommendation given to me. It has a beautiful cover, and it sounds interesting. This book came out last month, but I haven’t had the opportunity to read it yet.
I never read Little Women, but I had the opportunity to read the first few pages of Jo & Laurie and it was pretty good. I got to meet Melissa de la Cruz in March, and the book seemed interesting when she described it.
I got The Summer of Impossibilities as an ARC. I suppose I could have added this book to last week’s Top Ten Tuesday, which talked about books that give off summer vibes.
Sword Catcher by Cassandra Clare doesn’t have a cover yet, and it’s also not available for pre-order, but it’s already on my TBR. I like all the Shadowhunter books, so I’ll probably want to read this as soon as it comes out.
So these are my most recent TBR adds! Next week we’re talking about our summer TBRs!
I’m glad you’re liking Jo & Laurie so far!

I only read a preview of it, but it was good. I’ll check out the book later.
oooh, I didn’t know about these! You are so right — Kiersten White’s books and Forged have such striking covers!! I would totally pick them up asap!

I often find so many new books at your site too! It must be because you’re in Australia.
Great list! I haven’t added the sequel to Chosen Ones to my TBR just yet, but I’m hoping it’s going to follow one of the other chosen ones and then I’ll definitely be interested in checking it out.

Hmmm… I don’t know. I was under the impression that it would be Sloane again, after the events of Chosen Ones, but I could be wrong. Ms. Roth has done multiple POV books before, and this book definitely was in a different style than her previous books, so perhaps!
I’ve only read Twilight, and yes, it has its problems and the writing may not be the best, but I think Stephenie Meyer is a great storyteller. I hope you enjoy the series! I’m planning on a reread before Midnight Sun, too. 🙂 And I haven’t even heard of Sword Catcher yet. I love all the Shadowhunter books, as well.
Happy Reading!

Thank you! I’ve heard Ms. Clare talk about Sword Catcher in a couple places online. I think it’s an adult book.
Just so you know, The Bell Curve was highly criticized back in the day for the assumptions they made about IQ and how they sorted/interpreted their data. Not trying to discourage you from reading it or anything, just thought you should know their scientific methods and conclusions weren’t found to be accurate upon closer review. But there is definitely something to be said from learning from the past!
And I think The Summer of Impossibilities sounds fun.
Here is our Top Ten Tuesday.

I remember the controversy when it originally came out. I’m almost done with it, LOL. I think I liked Murray’s other book, Coming Apart, better.
I’m feeling the same way about the Twilight series. I read the first one in high school—I think. It might have been late middle school. And I really didn’t have any intentions of returning to the series, but with the new book coming out, I’m really considering going back and seeing what I missed. So many of my friends were obsessed with it back then! Time to try and remember what all the fuss was about!
I think this new book is definitely getting people to read the old books again (or maybe for the first time, as in my case).
Twilight is one of those guilty pleasure reads. It’s not amazing, but it sure is addicting!
My husband was like “why are you reading that?” Who cares? He’s only seen the movies though. I probably won’t watch the movies, but if I read the books I can join everybody else with Midnight Sun.
I’d like to try Kiersten White one of these days…

I think you’d like her books.
I still haven’t read Little Women, but Jo & Laurie sounds good!
I tried to read it once, but I didn’t get very far. Maybe I was too young at the time.
The Guinevere Deception was so awesome – I can’t wait to read the sequel. I hope we’ll both love it. Thanks for sharing!

Hopefully! I like Kiersten’s books though, so I probably will.
I hadn’t heard of Jo & Laurie before. Just added it to my Goodreads shelf. Twilight hasn’t made it onto my list yet. Maybe one day.
Thanks for visiting my blog.
Yay! I love enabling–err–helping people find new books!
I also had huge problems with Twilight and DNFed it. Also, a few of Stephenie Meyer’s comments about who would play who in a film adaptation of her work rubbed me the wrong way.
My sister is obsessed with Jo & Laurie right now–it’s great to see how Little Women is connecting with new generations of readers.

I have read Twilight a little after it came out. My friend told me that she was reading it and it was good. So I bought it and gave it a try. I only read Twilight and New Moon. I have not read the last two. I could not get into book 3, Eclipse. I don’t know why. I have watched all the movies. I thought the first two were good books. Before I meet Edward, I thought the book was little slow. But when I met him, I became intrigued by him. He had some mystery to him. It was him that I read the first book then I wanted to read the second on.

I’m on book 2 now :-).
I think now is the perfect time to read Twilight for the first time. I did that 5 years ago, was mad I couldn’t move on to Midnight Sun afterward (beyond the excerpt posted on her website), and have now pretty much lost the motivation/momentum needed to do that. Basically, I’m jealous of you and your accidental good choices.
Meanwhile, Jo & Laurie is my single most anticipated book of 2020, and it is absolutely killing me that my library got it as an e-book (that IS NOT EVEN CHECKED OUT RIGHT NOW), since I don’t have an e-reader, but not a physical book (and they offer curbside pickup, so it’s not even like e-books are all we can access).
