Hello! Welcome to Top Ten Tuesday, where we take a topic and come up with ten books to make our list. This meme is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl! Today’s topic is supposed to be “Stand Alone Books that Need a Sequel” but I don’t read a ton of stand-alone books, so I’m just going to write about books that I want to read more of. Stat!
Sky Without Stars doesn’t even come out yet, but I already need the next book! This book is amazing! I’m sure you’ll hear me fangirl about this book for a long time into the future. This book is based on Les Miserables, and it’s also supposed to have a Lunar Chronicles vibe to it… so maybe I should read the other two while I’m waiting. I got the Lunar Chronicles when they were on sale over Black Friday weekend, so I don’t have the excuse that I’m waiting for the library to get it…
I really need to read Les Miserables. It’s a brick of a book, but considering that I love not one, but two, books based on it, I figure there’s a good chance I’ll like the original as well. Legend was originally based on Les Miserables, and it happens to be one of my favorite books, and the next book, Rebel, comes out October 1st! Are the ARCs for this one out yet?
Four Dead Queens is a stand-alone… for now. I did hear some rumblings that maybe… someday… there would be another book, but I’d love to see more from this universe. If not, I definitely want to see more from this author.
Another book I’d love to see more of is Into the Hollow. I read it last year, and couldn’t put it down. It definitely didn’t get enough marketing when it came out. I enjoyed it a lot, and I think that there are more things I’d like to see from these characters.
After the way The Wicked King ended… yes I need the next book in this series now! I just have to find out what happens next! There isn’t a release date for this one yet, but it’s supposed to be 2020. Is it 2020 yet?
I really loved Fangirl and I’d love to see more of Cath and… her love interest (trying not to give away spoilers here). There’s a lot more that I could see in this world, although I don’t expect to see any more.
Carve the Mark was a duology, but I’d love to see what happens after The Fates Divide. Fortunately, there are a couple of short stories from this world coming out in Veronica Roth’s new book, The End and other Beginnings, which comes out October 1st (lots of bookmail for me that day).
I’d like to see more of what happens to the characters in Crow Flight. I thought they were interesting enough, and I’d love to see where life takes them.
Muse of Nightmares was left open-ended, which opens itself up to fanfiction, or maybe another book? I don’t think there are plans for more in this series, but I wouldn’t mind seeing more of Lazlo and Sarai as they continue their adventures. Maybe they’ll get a true happy ending after all.
I’m pretty sure I’ve heard from the author that Enchantée is not going to be a stand-alone book, and that would make my heart so happy. This book was wonderful, and I’d absolutely love to read more about this story. After the French Revolution, there was the Terror. How would the characters go through that? Oh, how I hope to see more of this book!
So what about you? Are there stand-alone books that you wish were made into duologies, trilogies, or more? Or do you read a lot of series and wish the book fairies would send another book your way immediately? I love to see your response.
Next week we’re sharing what books are on your Spring TBR! And we’ll find out how well I did on my Winter TBR.
I’d love a Fangirl sequel. Just to see more of cath in college, or even after. Heck she could write about Reagan and I’d read it. 🙂

The book covered like, one year? There’s definitely more time for them to be together in college.
Great list!
I’m not sure what the author was going for with the ending of Muse of Nightmares either, but my dream would be a Daughter of Smoke and Bone + Strange the Dreamer crossover, since this last book confirmed they’re set in the same universe. Anyway, I hope we get more!
I’ve never read The Daughter of Smoke and Bone (although it was on sale for $1.99 a month or so ago so I picked it up). That would be cool if they were in the same universe though.
Enchantee is going to have a sequel! Objectively, it doesn’t really need one and works well as a standalone, but inside my heart is squeeing because I’m so happy to get to see more of Camille, Sophie and Lazare!

It does work well as a stand-alone, but I still wanted to see more, and I’m glad there will be!
I did not know Four Dead Queens was written as a standalone. I’m curious to see if they make more books. I haven’t read Muse of Nightmares yet, but this open-ended ending leaves me curious.
The author did tweet about maybe writing more in the world a few days ago, so hopefully? Maybe we’ll get a novella at least. I’m not sure what she’s working on at the moment though.
Into the Hollow does sound like a good book.
My Top Ten Tuesday post.

I thought it was. If it wasn’t for Netgalley I might never have heard of it though.
I will take more of Rainbow Rowell, especially Fangirl, any darn time!
🙂 She has a new book coming out this year!
I haven’t read any of these, but I did just add Into the Hollow to my TBR thanks to you. And I’m reading Fangirl this week hopefully.

Ooh yay! I hope you like them both!
I saw Fangirl a few times today, and I say, YES. Let’s have more of that. I was loving those characters, and think it would be fun to stay with them through college.
It makes me wonder if there are any good Fangirl fanfics… I don’t think I’d be the one to write them (my fanfic want to write list is long enough) but it would be cool if there were some out there)
I haven’t really read enough standalones (well, at least not enough standalones needing sequels…) to do a particularly fantastically on this week’s post. It seems like we both read mostly read fantasy and sci-fi which probably doesn’t help…

LOL. As I go through the Goodreads top YA books, the ones I’m interested in reading the most are the ones with series. Most of the stand-alones I’ve read recently were books I’ve read through Netgalley.
I’m seeing a lot of Fangirl this week. I am scared to read Wicked King because of the cliffhanger so it’s still on my shelf unread LOL
I read The Wicked King and it was SO GOOD! But I want the next book now. Although I did reread one of my favorite scenes again the other day, so even with the cliffhanger I’m still enjoying it.
A sequel to Fangirl would be really interesting to read.
We could all fangirl over it on Top Ten Tuesday :-).
Ooh, a couple of new titles here for me AND a reminder I so need to get to Fangirl!
Yay for new books! Not like our TBRs aren’t bursting already.
Fangirl made my list this week too! I’m also reading Sky without Stars right now and loving it, so I’m glad to hear it’s worthy of getting a sequel. 🙂
So far, Goodreads doesn’t have information about the sequel to Sky Without Stars, but it’s listed as System Divine #1, so I’m pretty sure that one is planned. Plus… you can’t leave the ending as it is.
I really need to catch up on Marie Lu’s Legend series, and on the Cruel Prince series. As soon as I finish the other 300 books on my TBR *sigh*
The TBR never seems to end, right?
Gah, I am so sad to hear about the Muse open ending. Why do they do these things to us!? Sobs. Also I am cracking up that you need sequels to books that haven’t even been released! I had no idea that Legend was a Les Mis retelling either! Sorry to say, I am like 99% sure there won’t be any ARCs for that since it’s a 4th in a well-established series? But I suppose you never know! My fingers will be crossed for you, anyway!

The Muse ending wasn’t disappointing or anything… it just left it so that they could go on and have more adventures. And maybe find more happiness (although I don’t want to give away more spoilers). It is complete, but it could have more written about it without ruining the work.
I’ve had an ARC of the sequel to Wicked King since last April! That is so crazy. I need to read that one soon.
You should. It’s really good. 🙂
